DAY 1: GUWAHATI TO UMIAM LAKE ( 85 kms) (25th Dec, 2017)
Voila! We are commencing the ride in the land of clouds today!
We meet for lunch today, and after a quick briefing of what to expect during the ride, we begin our ride towards Umiam Lake today.
We will be staying in tents today in an island amidst the beautiful Umiam Lake.
DAY 2: UMIAM LAKE TO CHERRAPUNJI (66 kms) (26th Dec, 2017)
Today, we cross Shillong and soon leave the highway roads behind and hit the beautiful winding roads of Meghalaya. Many curves and twisties later, we are in Cherrapunji, the place with the highest rainfall in the world!
We soon head on a trek to the famous Living Roots Bridge of Meghalaya, but not before first checking out India's highest waterfall- Nohkalikai Falls.
The trek down to the living roots bridge is quite a daunting task, but the first glimpse of the bridge will make it all worth it!
DAY 3: MAWSMAI CAVES (35 kms) (27th Dec, 2017)
Today, it's a relaxed start to the day. The only plan is to spend as much as we want exploring the beautiful stalagmite structures of the Mawsmai Caves! We retreat to our homestay early and an evening of fun & campfire begins!
DAY 4: CHERRAPUNJI TO KONGTHONG (50 kms) (28th Dec, 2017)
Today is a short but tough riding day. We head to the non-touristy village of Kongthong. A little idyllic village in ths Khasi Hills, in Kongthong, everyone's name is a song! You are completely away from civilization at Kongthong, and as close to nature as it gets!
The final ascent of 2 kms to reach Kongthong village can challenge your off-road motorbiking skills, with you riding on boulders and slush filled path to the reach the top!
DAY 5: KONGTHONG TO SHNONPDENG, DAWKI (95 kms) (29th Dec, 2017)
You have all seen pictures of Dawki River, with its water so clear that you can even spot a perfect shadow of your boat. Right? But Dawki isn't crystal clear all the time. It's at its clearest during December, lucky us!
We ride through more village and country roads today to reach Dawki, which is also the border town between India & Bangladesh, but not before a deviation to the cleanest village of Asia - Mawlynnong. Bangladesh is literally a stone throw away from here.
We stay the night at the most beautifully located homestay with stunning views of the Dawki river, at Shnonpdeng.
DAY 6: AROUND SHNONPDENG (30th Dec, 2017)
There is ample to do and see around Dawki. We could explore caves, go on treks, or indulge in the many water sports that are organised on the Dawki River. However, where we stay is also a perfect place to sit back with a book and a hot cup of coffee and live the day to its fullest!
DAY 7: SHNONPDENG TO SHILLONG VIA KRANG SHURI WATERFALL (120 kms) (31st Dec, 2017)
We start the day early today, and take the route back to the Rock Capital of India- Shillong, instead of taking the usual highway back, we take the road less taken towards Jowai, visiting the most beautiful waterfall in Meghalaya - Krang Shuri Waterfall.
Its's 31st of December, and we are in the Rock Capital! What do we do today? We party!!
DAY 8: SHILLONG REST DAY (1st Jan, 2018)
Today is our final rest day at Shillong. There are so many beautiful cafes and pubs in Shillong, each one playing better rock music than the other, so many artists performing live at restaurants. We spend the day cafe/pub hopping and indulge in the fun & vibrant energy of Shillong!
DAY 9: SHILLONG TO GUWAHATI (100 kms) (2nd Jan, 2018)
Today, we start early from Shillong and reach Guwahati in time to return rented bikes or load up our bikes back home, and take our flights back home ourselves.
Mystic Meghalaya has been explored, but we all know we are coming back!
